Hey…. remember me……? Also, are there too many acronyms in my title?
Reading: As busy as I have been educating children, I have found so much time to read (maybe that’s why I have not found the time to blog…). I am currently reading The Shining! I have never read Stephen King before, nor have I ever really read a horror book. It has yet to become too spooky but I am finding myself becoming increasingly scared to read it before bed. I think the characterization of Jack is going to be an essential part of the book, but why am I 150 pages in and nothing has happened except for talking about a character’s recent past in agonizing detail. I am bored! I will let you know how it goes from here!
Eating: I know I have mentioned Badiali before but I am here to discuss the new Badiali location and the special grandma pie. Damn, Granny is so scrumptious. I find eating the grandma slice extra exciting because I am planning on teaching my Grade 6 students about commas this week and our lesson is centred around “Let’s eat, Grandma!”, so the text to self connection I am about to make is going to be so epic. I am munching on Grandma like it’s nobody’s business.
Playing: It is that time of year when I yearn for an artistic hobby. Every fall I buy knitting needles, canvases, needlepoint supplies (that was a grossly expensive one), alcohol markers, and paints. Thank god I already own so many watercolour sets because that is my fall hobby this go-around! I have been playing with my paints and trying to become good at visual art. There is rarely a finished product worth keeping, or even looking at, but I love to play with colour and try to make something that looks like something maybe sorta recognizable.
Obsessing over: This TV series (that I found on YouTube; I am not so sure about the legality of that) called Africa From Above. These episodes are so well produced, so stunningly beautiful and just so epic. I am also obsessing over the word epic, if you have not caught on.
Recommending: I am recommending a podcast that was recently recommended to me by a new friend called Ologies with Alie Ward. It is tremendously popular and I am most likely the last person to hear about it, but I am going to recommend it nonetheless. Every episode features a different ‘ologist’ who tells us about their field. As we speak (as I type this), I am listening to the episode with party psychologists and learning about the psychology of celebrations. It is, say it with me now, EPIC! Alie Ward is very good at what she does. I think a lot of you would really like it.
Trying: I am trying to manage all 6 of my middle school English classes and organize my time. I think I am holding on, to my own surprise, quite well in terms of planning and physical organization for my work, but the first thing to go is my social life and ability to leave the house after work. I just want to sit at home and try to relax but really what I am doing is making lists and lists of what I need to print before my students come into class the next morning. There is no church and state, there is no work life balance there is no separation of Ms. Eklove and Sarah. I am trying my best to find it.
Thank you for sticking by me through my little hiatus (not that you had much of a choice). I am looking forward to my next R.E.P.O.R.T. but let’s not hold our breath, okay? “Okay, Ms. Eklove”, you all say in unison.
